Meanwhile...on the opposite couch...

OK, I just went upstairs to clean up after my last post (see below,) and this is what I found. The story I just mentioned that Josie was writing on the couch while Ellie was texting. Here it is in its entirety and with all of the original spellings and punctuations... (and this was not for an assignment, she just was writing for fun.)

"The Pet Vampire"
2nd grade - Mrs. H

1 Once there was a guinea pig and her friends, a dragon, dog, and a pet vampire. One day the vampire escaped from his cage! The dog, guinea pig and dragen were very scared. They searched high and low.
2 Then all the sudden they heard a cry in the mountains! It said: HELP HELP A little VAMPIRE!!!! Now they knew he was near. They ran and ran. But there was a huge line of fier in the way!
3 There was only one thing to put out fire in that land: Mushrooms! So they went searching in the forest for mushrooms. They got lots of mushrooms. They went back in the mountains to put the fier out. Every time they through a mushroom a little line of fier blew out. They had to do it quickly because the fier grew very fast.
4 Soon they made a path so they could get across, then they finaly got to the vampire. Then they went home and put more duck tape and less holes, plus shaved the tips of the vampire's teeth off.

THE END

:)

From a reader - here is an interpretation:

The guinea pig of course represents children in general. All parents are learning "on the job" and their kids are their "guinea pigs".

Her "friends" are the dragon which actually represents Satan - the dog (representing "man's best friend") is a dyslexic symbol of "God". : ) The pet vampire represents all of those life-sucking things that come into our paths - and which are competing between our two natures. Our Godly nature and the scheming, plotting, and temptations that come from Satan.

Each child enters this world amidst this spiritual battlefield. And of course, well meaning parents are striving to guide their kids in the right way - but again, their kids are "guinea pigs" because the parents themselves are "learning as they go and fighting their own spiritual battles. Makes for an interesting drama.

From the "mountains" came a little cry. Doesn't the Bible say "I look to the hills from whence cometh my help?" And the line of fire likely represents "hell".

As for what puts out that line of fire - "mushrooms" - it's either a metaphor for "BS' - (you know the old line about mushrooms - they keep them in the dark and feed them BS) - OR, as I prefer, mushrooms are the metaphor for surrounding yourselves with happy, positive people as a means to protect yourself from hell's fire. Why? Because as we all know, mushrooms are the perfect metaphor for a bunch of "fun guys".

Then, when urrounded by sufficient 'fun guys" - the fires threaten us less - and we can navigate life. But of course, we need to ensure constant diligence and vigilance and surround ourselves with PROTECTION - represented by the security of duct tape and less "holes" to allow leakage of our spirits. As for shaving off vampire's teeth - what better way to lessen the impact of temptation's bite?

Anyway, it would appear to me that Miss Josie is quite the spiritual insight.

Love to all.

HI sister.

I can't tell you how much I want to be there. They are growing so quickly and I'm missing it. Boo-hoo. Thanks for writing this stuff. It makes me feel like I know more of what's happening in all of your lives. Lord willing, I will be closer soon.
Love to you always and always,
Macy
